Why Blended Learning Is Better

NexTech High School in Michigan offers truly blended learning classrooms. What does this mean? Our students attend class in person half of the time, and they complete work on their own or virtually during their "off" hours. This method fosters a higher level of independence, engagement, and student success. Read through the following information to learn more, and get in touch with us if you have questions.

5 Benefits of Blended Learning for High School Students

Blended learning may not be the correct choice for every student. Still, most students who have a positive attitude about blended learning and the ability to learn in a self-directed manner thrive in this environment. They are encouraged to take control of their education and develop the skills to complete assignments independently — while remaining engaged during the in-person class sessions they attend.

1. Blended Learning Increases Independence

Students in blended learning or virtual environments have to become more independent to succeed in class. They must learn the time-management, organizational, and social skills necessary to conduct their virtual work and ask for help if they need it.

2. Blended Learning Encourages Students To Reach Out to Classmates

Blended learning offers the opportunity for a more individualized, hands-on curriculum, but it's not all about doing work alone. Our students frequently complete independent projects and work with one another to complete group assignments.

3. Blended Learning Fosters Engagement

It's hard for students to be disengaged or passive in class when much of their work is completed on their own time. Blended learning prompts students to be engaged in the class and take a higher level of control in their educational careers.

4. Blended Learning Offers Flexibility

Many teens have part-time jobs, and some would like to work longer hours or even take on an apprenticeship. Other students simply do not do well when forced to attend school for six to eight hours a day, five days a week. Blended learning offers the flexibility for students to get their work done in their own time and at their own pace.

5. Blended Learning Supports a Diverse Student Population

Students with attention difficulties, sensory disorders, medical issues, and various mental health diagnoses may not do well in a traditional high school environment. While many high schools may offer help in the form of counseling or free study periods, they do not offer the ability for students to control half of their school day. We do. Our students attend either the morning or afternoon session and work independently for the other half of the day.
