Thank you for visiting the NexTech High School of Lansing website. Our team at NexTech is dedicated to supporting students throughout the region with a true blended learning experience. We are small, innovative, passionate, and are excited to meet you. 

Allow me to introduce myself.  My name is Nathan Beyer and I joined the NexTech team in 2017.  I grew up in the local area, graduting from Haseltt High School, and completed my undergraduate degree in Biology from University of the Cumberlands.  I returned to school to pursue a career education after moving back to Michigan, and completed my educational traning at Central Michigan University.  In the time between these degrees, I married my wonderful wife Krista who also attended Haslett and CMU (Fire up Chips!). 

I joined the team at NexTech as the science instructor, teaching Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Earth Science, and some elective courses.  In my first year with the program, I helped found the Nextech Hydra, our FIRST robotics team which has gone on to win two district championships during our rookie and second season.  As my time with Nextech progressed I have taken on more of an administrative role with the program.  In my second year with Nextech I sat with the school board and leadership to draft our revised mission and vision statement over the course of several months.  During this time, we established a 5-year school improvement plan which is aimed at establishing the foundational pillars of of a successful program and developing those in a way that fits our unique educational model.  The following year, I served as our Student Support Interventionist, leading data-driven weekly discussions with staff regarding student performance and classroom pedagogy.  In the time I have been with the program, we have seen student success skyrocket and we are looking to continue this trend into the future.

I am proud to be a member of the team here at Nextech.  I have been involved in functions at all levels within the organization and this has granted me insight into the nature of our program and the students we serve.  We're not like other schools... I like to describe our program as a "college with training wheels".  We have high expectations for our students, but we do not expect them to meet these challenges alone and without significant support.  Our model more closely reflects a college schedule for our students than a "traditional" schedule, balancing and managing pacing for individual research and reinforcement with direct instruction from core subject areas several times a week.  We provide supports in the form of pacing guides, homeroom teachers that remain advisors for students through all four years, and communicating frequently as a staff regarding individual student achievement.

We are a small program, and that is by design.  Nextech High School of Lansing employes a "student-centered" model of education.  Every instructional decision made within our program begins and ends with the question "how will this impact our students".  We are a program that will not allow you to fall through the cracks because we have a dedicated team that views each student as an individual that brings their own unique perspective to our shared educational experience.  We believe that our model is not perfect for all students, but it is perfect for some.  We work within our niche to provide a quality educational experience to all our students, regardless of their past life and educational experiences.  We use these experiences to strengthen ourselves and expand our understanding of what it means to learn and educate.

As an educator, I feel blessed to be a part of a program that is on the cutting edge of educational reform and honored that our students and staff put their trust in my leadership to accomplish our goals.  I look forward to getting to know you all as we traverse this journey together and work toward our goal of preparing our students for college, career, and life.
